Somatica Depth Psychology

Welcome! Bienvenida! This is a space for attending to what the body holds, and what moves along with it in the psyche. I offer a steady, gentle container for that exploration, at a pace that feels right for you.

About me
I was born in Spain to Colombian parents, which shaped my deep interest in the cultural, relational, and symbolic dimensions of human experience.
I earned my Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and spent seven years at the UCSF Department of Psychiatry's Child Trauma Research Program, which shaped my understanding of early development, attachment, and trauma.
My somatic training includes Somatic Experiencing and Integral Somatic Psychology, along with additional study in nervous-system-based bodywork. I later began studying Jungian-oriented depth psychology, including coursework at the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco.
In 1995 I received a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research in Colombia, where I lived for three years and took part in human-rights accompaniment in communities affected by armed conflict and displacement.
Together, these experiences inform an approach that weaves developmental, somatic, relational, and depth-psychological perspectives.
The work of somatic depth psychology
Somatic depth psychology attends to both psyche and body as we explore the conscious and unconscious dimensions of experience.
Much of our inner life exists outside ordinary awareness. Unconscious material can emerge through dreams, images, emotions, bodily sensations, creative expression, and our responses to beauty and meaning. It is also carried in the body and nervous system — including early, preverbal impressions of our relational world that may hold safety and connection, or overwhelm, loss, and fear.
My work focuses on building enough safety, in the relationship and in the nervous system, for these deeper layers to emerge gradually. Depending on the client and the moment, our work may include:
-
Attention to emotions and bodily sensations
-
Images, dreams, memories, and active imagination
-
Exploration of movement and creative expression
-
Awareness of patterns arising in the therapeutic relationship
-
Co-regulation and nervous-system support
-
Somatic practices, carefully considered together
As safety develops, early relational patterns can be recognized with compassion and gradually renegotiated. What once had to stay outside awareness can begin to find expression in words, images, emotion, and the body.
The intention is not simply to reduce symptoms, but to support a deeper relationship with oneself — one that makes room for vulnerability, imagination, and a more personally meaningful way of living.

Who I Work With
I provide individual psychotherapy for adults interested in exploring the emotional, bodily, relational, and symbolic dimensions of their experience.
Beginning Our Work Together
We begin with three or four sessions to explore the quality of the therapeutic match — whether my approach feels helpful, and whether the slower, exploratory pace feels right for you. No prior experience with somatic or depth-oriented therapy is needed, just curiosity about your inner experience.
Frequency and Length of Therapy
This work depends on emotional safety. Unconscious material — the sensations, images, and early relational patterns this work explores — can only surface once the nervous system and the therapeutic relationship feel safe enough to hold it. That safety is built through consistency, which is why I meet with clients once a week, not less often. Sessions are 50 minutes.
Fees and Payment
$215 per 50-minute session, due the day of the session.
In-Person and Online Sessions
I see clients in my office in San Rafael, California (limited availability), and through secure online video sessions.
